Viponds Paints has two excellent black primers:
Viponds Acrylic Multi Purpose Primer Sealer Undercoat is a universal water based undercoat for interior and exterior surfaces that has excellent opacity, adhesion, sealing, filling and sanding properties. The black water based primer is ideal for using on raw plasterboard when dark feature walls colours are being top coated in colours like Colorbond Monument, Pantone Black 6C and RAL 5004 Schwarzblau.
Viponds Rapid Dry Undercoat is an ultrafast black primer and undercoat that has excellent adhesion properties to most surfaces. The product tacks off in around 5 minutes and is a good substitute for using water based undercoats when shorter dry times are required. The product has good sanding properties and dries to a satin finish which makes for a superior gloss holdout on top coats. Its ideal to use over all alkyd enamels that are previously painted and well as water based coatings. The black primer is ideal to use when top coating colours such as Colorbond Night Sky, RAL 9005 Signalschwarz and Pantone Black 3C.
FAQs
What is black primer, and how does it differ from regular primers?
Black primer, also known as black primer undercoat or black primer sealer, is a specialised type of primer formulated with a dark pigment, primarily black, to provide a strong foundation for dark-coloured paints. Unlike regular primers, which are typically light-coloured, black primer is designed specifically for use with dark paint colours. The darker hue of black primer enhances the coverage and vibrancy of the final coat, saving time and resources in the painting process.
Can black primer be used on various surfaces, such as metal, wood or plastic?
Absolutely! One of the key advantages of using a black primer is its versatility. It can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, including metal, wood, plastic and other materials. Whether you're painting a metal railing, a wooden cabinet or a plastic trim, our black primer undercoat provides an excellent base for dark paint colours, ensuring a smooth and striking finish.
What are the key benefits of using a black primer in the painting process?
Using black primer offers several significant benefits that enhance the overall painting process:
Does black primer enhance the adhesion and longevity of the final paint coat?
Absolutely! The use of our black primer sealer is specifically formulated to enhance adhesion, leading to a more durable and long-lasting final paint coat. The strong bond between the surface and the topcoat prevents premature wear, ensuring your paint job maintains its pristine appearance for years to come.
How should black primer be applied for the best results?
For optimal results, start by preparing the surface by cleaning it from dust and contaminants. Stir the black primer thoroughly before application. Use a high-quality brush, roller or spray gun for even application, following the material's grain. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the topcoat, resulting in intensified colours and improved coverage.
